Our democracy is at stake this November. Here are some ways you can help save it.

Step 1: Decide what level of government you want to work on.

There are three levels of government you could help out with:

1. Federal (i.e. President, Congress)

2. State (i.e. State Attorney General, ballot measures)

3. Local (i.e. city council, school board)

Step 2: Join up with organizers and activists who are already on the ground.
Federal

1. Join Vote Save America's Adopt a State initiative, where you'll help to increase voter turnout in swing states.

2. Join Vote Forward's The Big Send initiative, which is working to send 10 million voter turnout letters in 2020.

3. Donate to key races—we suggest donating to these four especially important races:

Sara Gideon of Maine (running against Susan Collins, who voted to confirm Kavanaugh)

Amy McGrath of Kentucky (running against Mitch McConnell)

Cal Cunningham of North Carolina (against Thom Tillis)

Mark Kelly of Arizona (against Martha McSally)

You can also split your donation between 11 key Senate races through this link.

4. Text bank for Joe Biden.

State

1. Volunteer for the campaigns working on key ballot measures:

Yes on Prop 16 (affirmative action)

Yes on Prop 17 (voting rights for those on parole)

Yes on Prop 21 (rent control)

2. Donate to the campaigns working on key ballot measures:

Yes on Prop 16

Yes on Prop 17

Yes on Prop 21

3. At the county level: phone bank for / volunteer for / donate to the campaign for Yes on Measure J, which would divest from the LA Sheriff's Department and invest in community services.

Local

1. Volunteer for local candidates you believe in. As a community, we have an opportunity to make real change this November and we need to seize it. We recommend volunteering for Phoebe Lyons for Manhattan Beach City Council and Jason Boxer for MBUSD School Board, both of whom we've enthusiastically endorsed.

2. Put up yard signs for local candidates you support and talk to your neighbors about key issues.

3. Talk to your family and friends. Make sure everyone you know is registered to vote and understands the most pressing issues in this election.

3. Join local activist organizations on the ground already doing the work. A few suggestions:

Torrance for Justice: active in fighting local voter suppression.

Black Lives Matter LA: regularly holds rallies and informative events regarding county-wide issues.

Sunrise Movement LA: fighting for a Green New Deal and environmental justice.

4. Contribute to mutual aid efforts:

Mutual Aid LA

Water Drop LA

South Bay Community Care

Community Loving

LA Community Fridges

Hydrate LA
