ABOUT

At the Community Forum on policing on July 9, 2020, Manhattan Beach Police Chief Derrick Abell said that people should "get the facts" about racial equity in policing for themselves. We're working to allow members of our community to do exactly that.

Primarily, we're sharing data obtained from the City of Manhattan Beach and the Manhattan Beach Police Department. We're sharing both the raw data (upon request via email), so that you can see our sources and the facts for yourselves, and our analyses of the data—complete with calculations, sources, and references. Obtaining data through the CPRA is a long and bureaucratic process; we're working to ensure transparency and easy access for members of our community.

Though policing is one major area in which racial disparities in Manhattan Beach are apparent, it's far from the only one. In recognition of that, we're also sharing information on related issues and news related to racial equity in Manhattan Beach.

We want to make it easy not only to understand what's going on but also to take action. Join us in fighting for racial justice in Manhattan Beach by visiting our Action Toolkit page.
